Garry Nadebaum
The United States Professional Tennis Association recently named Garry B. Nadebaum its Missouri Valley Open Player of the Year and its Oklahoma Professional of the Year.

Garry also was recently named the United States Tennis Association/Missouri Valley Tennis Association’s 2001 Adult Player of the Year and the Oklahoma District Tennis Association’s 2001 Oklahoma Adult Player of the Year.

The Oklahoma District Tennis Association also named Garry the 2000 Clinician of the Year at its annual meeting.

The ODTA honored him by stating, “Garry Nadebaum has been involved in junior tennis as well as adult lessons for many years. He has touched many lives with a love of the game and teaches great skills. He has developed great tennis players as well as good citizens on the court, which is commendable. He is a great clinician because he is a great player with a love of the game. He organizes and directs player development not only for the ranked player, but also for those who play for enjoyment.”

Additionally, Garry Nadebaum completed the years 2001 and 2000 ranked No. 1 in the entire state of Oklahoma in the Men’s Open Money Singles Division of the Oklahoma District Tennis Association. He also was ranked as the No. 1 men’s open player for 2001 by the USTA/Missouri Valley Tennis Association.

Garry Nadebaum is the Northeast Oklahoma delegate to ODTA and also is serving on the Junior Player Council for ODTA.

Growing up on a tennis court helped Garry Nadebaum excel in tennis at an early age and develop into a complete tennis-teaching professional.

Garry was inspired by his father, Brian, a teaching professional in Adelaide, South Australia. Garry holds a Professional 1 rating in the USPTA, qualifying him to be a head tennis professional anywhere in the world.

Garry is tennis director and director of the recreation center at Shangri-La, Oklahoma’s premier resort, located near Afton, Okla. Garry served as head tennis professional and club manager at Tulsa Tennis Club, the only clay-court facility in Oklahoma, from 1992 until April 2000. He previously served as assistant tennis professional at Hillcrest Country Club in Bartlesville, Okla., and as assistant tennis professional at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Okla.

He also was a self-employed tennis professional in Adelaide, South Australia, and a tennis professional and fitness instructor at Salisbury Sport and Leisure Center in Salisbury, South Australia.

Garry maintains, supervises and directs the entire tennis playing aspects of Shangri-La. He also is a member of the United States Racquet Stringers Association, a head coach and scout for the USTA’s Competition Training Center and a board member of the Tulsa Tennis Foundation, Inc.

Garry earned a bachelor of science degree in business management from Oral Roberts University, in Tulsa, Okla., and an associate in arts degree from South Plains College in Levelland, Texas.

At Oral Roberts, Garry earned Most Valuable Player honors. His team was ranked 16th in the NAIA, and he earned a national singles ranking of 32 and a national doubles ranking of 14. At South Plains College, his team was ranked 10th, and he earned a singles ranking of 34 and a doubles ranking of 12.

Since 1981, Garry has won first place in 78 tournaments and second place 43 times! He has also won state, national and international titles. He has competed in college, USTA satellite and USTA challenger events.
